Miami communications kiosks advance but face frictions

Kiosks with 65-inch interactive screens featuring ads and community benefits could be coming to the City of Miami, after commissioners OK’d on a preliminary vote legislation that would enable the installation of the devices along public rights-of-way.
The commission approved last week on first reading legislation that would define a communication kiosk, create a respective program and set standards for the permitted advertisement on the devices. On the same day, a resolution that would have allowed the city to piggyback on a St. Louis, MO, agreement with IKE Smart City LLC for the information kiosks program was deferred, after a request from City Manager Art Noriega.
