Miami Beach to take final action on use of plastic straws

Miami Beach’s effort to say goodbye to plastics was to return to the city commission this week in a final vote to enact sale or use restrictions for single-use plastic beverage straws and stirrers citywide.
Commissioners voted for the restrictions in July in a preliminary vote. Commissioner Ricky Arriola’s item stems from an ordinance adopted a year ago prohibiting single-use plastic straws and stirrers from city-owned beaches, docks, marinas, parks, piers, sidewalk cafes, and special events.
