Miami Beach hotel investment hands in limbo in Sunset Harbour

Miami Beach’s Sunset Harbour could be soon have a broadly-supported neighborhood identity overlay to regulate parking, building height and lot aggregation, but after long discussion last month commissioners are still torn on one aspect: a hotel prohibition could disenfranchise a developer that has already invested.
The overlay ordinance, according to a commission memo, includes a neighborhood vision plan that would raise the height limit from 55 feet to 65 for office buildings on lots over 10,000 square feet. It would also prohibit hotels, an item first referred to the Planning Board by the City Commission Feb. 10, spelling trouble for developer Ronny Finvarb, principal at Finvarb Group, who had already invested at 1790 Alton Road with the intent of building a Kimpton-managed hotel.
