Miami Beach crime down statistically, but up anecdotally

Crime in Miami Beach has decreased year-over-year by the double digits, according to data from the Miami Beach Police Department. But several city commissioners say reports from residents about crime are increasing and the perception of Miami Beach as an unsafe place to live and visit is spreading.
After a confrontational September meeting of the Beach’s Neighborhood and Community Affairs Committee at which Commissioner Michael Gongora said he would recommend Police Chief Daniel Oates’ removal if there weren’t improvements, Mr. Oates came to the committee’s Oct. 31 meeting with statistics and several new initiatives to cut down on crime, some of which have already been implemented…To read the full story click here
