Miami area spends larger slice of income on housing than nation

Household spending on average in the Miami metropolitan area is more than $3,000 below the national average, yet Miami area spending on housing is a far larger percentage of spending than in the nation as a whole, a consumer spending report released this week by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics shows.

Household income for the metropolitan area averages $57,555 per year for the past two calendar years, the report shows, while the national average was $60,580.
