Low-cost carriers lifting Miami International Airport passenger totals

As the third-busiest airport in the nation for international travel, Miami International Airport’s (MIA) passenger numbers were bound to take a hit when the pandemic struck last year. But year-end numbers, early figures from 2021 and new carriers and routes have the hub poised for re-growth.
During the peak holiday travel period last year from Dec. 21 to Jan. 6, MIA served more than 1.1 million passengers at an average of 64,705 per day, spokesman Greg Chin said.
