Joint venture wins state contract for Tamiami Trail-Everglades revamp

Florida Department of Transportation has awarded a joint venture between General Asphalt and Jones Benitez Corp. the design-build contract for an infrastructure project to increase the flow of freshwater to the Everglades and Florida Bay, said Tish Burger, communications manager for the Florida Department of Transportation, District Six.

Miami-based General Asphalt, founded in 1966, is a third-generation, family-owned business. According to its website, it’s among the largest heavy highway and civil contractors in South Florida. Local projects include Hialeah Drive and the Turnpike-Kendall Overpass to Miller Overpass.
