Jackson Health postpones opening of Doral hospital to spring

On May 12, 2018, Fernando Labarcena awoke with abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting. He called 911. An ambulance took him all the way to Hialeah Hospital almost four miles from his home at West 16th Avenue and 29th Street. Doctors diagnosed appendicitis. He underwent emergency surgery the same day.
The experience didn’t faze the 44-year-old, who immigrated from Camaguey, Cuba, in 2015. This past March, though, his wife Iromis and two sons, Deiler and Deiner, followed him from Cuba. He didn’t feel comfortable living far from a good hospital.
