Homestead’s multimodal transit center seeks county grant

Miami-Dade commissioners are being asked to waive eligibility rules for economic development funding in targeted urban areas and approve a $1.5 million grant to the City of Homestead as part of the city’s $50 million multimodal transit center project.
The money would help fund a multi-story garage with a retail liner. The project also includes a family entertainment center and a transit hub along the South Dade Transitway, which is one of the six routes ticketed to be part of the county’s SMART transit development program. The mode of that transit hasn’t yet been determined.
