Downtown fuels imperiled Camillus House program

In honor of former board member Jose Goyanes, directors of Miami’s Downtown Development Authority voted unanimously Friday to donate $50,000 to Camillus House. The money will go toward keeping the shelter’s day program – threatened with closing because of a funding shortfall – open until permanent funding can be found.
Mr. Goyanes, a vocal advocate for homeless programs and a driving force for the porta-potty program that created restrooms for the homeless, tourists and visitors downtown, recently resigned from the authority’s board after serving 11 years…To read the full story click here
