Dangerous void looms as county recycling deal ends

The county faces a recycling crisis: in less than a year and a half, the contract with Houston-based Waste Management, which calls itself the largest collector of recyclable materials in the US and Canada, will expire with no clear plan to retain or replace them.
Tampa-based Kessler Consulting, hired more than a year ago to find innovative solutions, “has drafted a report on future recycling options,” said Department of Solid Waste Management spokesperson Gayle R. Love. “It will be presented to the county commission in the coming months.”
