County’s drive for expressways control gets a state go-slow warning

The fight for control of five Miami-Dade expressways could take a new turn Tuesday, when commissioners decide whether to invoke the county’s home rule powers to “abolish” a state-created replacement of locally run tolling agency MDX.
But according to Stacy Miller, Florida’s top transportation official in Miami-Dade, the county’s unique protections against targeted legislative action from Tallahassee aren’t being violated because MDX is a state agency and the tollways are state-owned.
