County cleaning lady’s $9-an-hour pay ignites probe

While debating the county’s janitorial contract extension on Tuesday, Miami-Dade commissioners were informed that holders of county contracts valued at under $100,000 are not required to pay the living wage that’s mandated in county contracts to employees.
“Why does the lady cleaning in my office only make $9 an hour, when we are paying these contractors $18 million a year?” Commissioner Joe Martinez asked. “I think you should look into all of this.” …To read the full story click here
