Coral Gables offers aid to county with building safety tips

To ensure safety in its tallest and oldest residential buildings, Coral Gables is offering residents who believe their building structures are experiences safety issues the opportunity to contact the Coral Gables Building Division and have the chief building inspector assess and address those issues, the city manager said.
After the tragic collapse of the Champlain Towers South building at 8777 Collins Ave. in Surfside on June 24, several Infrastructure, Operations and Innovation Subcommittee meetings were held to discuss building safety, Coral Gables City Manager Peter J. Iglesias, who has more than 35 years in engineering experience and management, recommended that the county code be revised to strengthen the recertification process of buildings in Miami-Dade.
