Contractor choice hesitation stalls Gables mobility hub

Coral Gables commissioners have stalled selection of a firm to manage construction of a new mobility hub as they try to unravel why the second-ranked firm got higher scores than the first-ranked company from the only two city members of the selection committee.
The design contract has been awarded, but commissioners last month said they didn’t understand why The Weitz Co. was recommended by the selection team to be the construction manager at risk when the city’s economic development director and parking director, the only city members of the team, gave slightly higher scores to Kaufman Lynn Construction, which lost out. Commissioners say they won’t act until they find out why.
