Carollo wants city to build, sell 1,000 affordable housing units

At the last round of city budget hearings, Miami Commissioner Joe Carollo laid out an ambitious homeownership plan to address the city’s affordable housing crisis, which he said could be unlike anything else in the country.
Mr. Carollo mentioned the $113.75 million plan that would call for the construction of 1,000 affordable housing units that would be sold, rather than rented, as commissioners discussed how to best distribute $2.89 million from land acquisition funds. He said the city would be able to offer the apartments at about half market price.
