Beach looks to package MacArthur bus lane with bike lane

Miami Beach commissioners voted unanimously last week to request a study from the Florida Department of Transportation and Miami-Dade County to see if a dedicated bus lane for the bus rapid transit system on the MacArthur Causeway could also host bicyclists.

Dedicated bus lanes on the shoulders of the MacArthur Causeway came on the heels of a state transportation department (FDOT) request. The department asked for immediate express bus service due to construction of the I-395/SR 836/I-95 Project, otherwise known as the Signature Bridge. The lane saves riders six to 10 minutes over the causeway, and attracts 15,000 riders daily.
