Beach looks to become hub for finance, health, tech

Over a third of all jobs in Miami Beach are tied to tourism or related industries, but officials are considering offering new business cash incentives and positioning the city as a burgeoning hub for finance, healthcare and technology in an effort to diversify the economy.
Miami Beach’s Finance and Economic Resiliency committee has been discussing monthly since October strategies for mitigating the city’s reliance on tourism, including exploring sponsorship deals and making the most of city properties, and this month Economic Development Director Rickelle Williams briefed commissioners on business attraction and retention.
