As pilot program ends, scooters fill fund new bike lanes

With Miami’s six-month scooter pilot program set to end in early October and the city commission soon to decide whether to renew it, the commission’s strongest proponent of the program said that nearly a million rides will have been completed by the end of the test run.
Ken Russell, whose district has served as the testing ground, told Miami Today that “the program has been a resounding success.” And as the program nears an end, he said, profits the city reaped will be reflected in added bike lanes. He said the city could create the first bike lane with the generated funds before the end of the first six months.
