After straw vote OK, Miami Beach takes up a homeless tax

A Miami Beach charitable 1% homeless and domestic violence tax got a 53.46% yes vote during the city’s Nov. 2 general election, but the ballot question was only for advice.
In August, Miami Beach city commissioners agreed to place the tax as a straw ballot question and get residents’ opinion after it failed to pass by a 5-2 vote. City officials are now scheduled to vote on the resolution again at the Dec. 8 Miami Beach City Commission meeting.
