Doral transforms parks with dozen-plus sculptures

The City of Doral has transformed public parks and places into art exhibits with more than a dozen of artist Manolo Valdés’s larger-than-life sculptures.

In partnership with the Doral Contemporary Art Museum, “Manolo Valdés: The Legacy” is currently installed at main public parks, including Doral Central Park, Downtown Doral Park, MAU Park, Morgan Levy Park, Doral Legacy Park and Doral Glades Park. The exhibition is to be on display through June 2021.

“With Art Basel not occurring this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic and many looking for ways to safely experience art, this is a great opportunity to offer that enjoyment and to bring residents and visitors from all over to our bustling city,” said Doral Mayor Juan Carlos Bermudez.

The timing of this exhibition could not be better, considering that public art is deemed one of the safest ways to enjoy art in the current global health conditions, Mayor Bermudez added.

Several programs will be organized around the exhibition, including guided tours, educational programs for Doral students, public workshops and lectures, photography competitions, pop-up exhibitions and theatrical performances.

The sizeable scale of this urban exhibition by one of the most influential artists of our times will transform the city into an experiential space and will put Doral in the company of other great capitals, where the artist has also shown his monumental sculptures in public places, said Dr. Flor Mayoral, co-founder of the Doral Contemporary Art Museum.

“The Legacy by Manolo Valdés will be the largest exhibition ever for this world-renowned contemporary art master,” she said.
