Wong's Technology USA Corp. and Infinite Technology Corporation
Announce System-on-Chip Strategic Collaboration Agreement
Wong's to Use ITC's SoC Products Created by Independent Design Teams
RICHARDSON, Texas, June 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Infinite Technology Corporation
(ITC) and Wong's Technology USA Corp. today announced a strategic
collaboration agreement to establish a high-volume System-on-Chip (SoC)
product business focused on applications in wireless communications, Voice
over Internet Protocol (VoIP), multi-media, image processing, consumer
electronics and broadband communications. Wong's will manufacture the
resulting SoC Original Design Manufacturer (ODM) products, which will be based
on ITC's RADcore(TM) DSP Technology. Independent design teams participating
in the ITC product-design paradigm known as SCOPE (SemiConductor Original
Publishing Enterprise) will develop these SoC products.
According to a report recently published by Semico Research entitled
"Internet Appliances: Are They Wearing a Wire?," future cell phones and
handheld devices will probably converge into one product that can play digital
music and display color video, allow wireless email and Internet access, and
provide cell phone and typical handheld functions. Moreover, Semico Research
believes that these wireless-web-capable cell phones or "smart cell phones"
will dominate the Internet appliance market with a 79.2% share by 2004.
Semico Research forecasts the Internet Appliance market will grow at a
compound annual growth rate of 18% to $166.9 billion by 2004.
Wong's Technology USA Corp. President Paulus Chan said: "For more than
30 years, Wong's has been a major supplier of various types of electronic
products and sub-systems. We are moving to the development of new classes of
consumer products and devices to connect to the Internet and we need low cost
solutions with single-chip implementation to ensure that our products are
deployed with a consumer market cost sensitivity. ITC's SCOPE business model
affords a unique opportunity for their design teams to develop and for Wong's
to evaluate non-exclusive SoCs that meet the needs of these converging
markets. We're looking forward to working together with ITC."
"Based on input from Wong's on its SoC requirements, ITC will work with
its third party design teams with the system skills needed to create
integrated, focused and competitive SoC solutions," said Tim Smith, ITC
chairman and chief executive officer. "ITC will manage the silicon
implementation process, from SoC design through product engineering to
manufacturing operations. We expect our design teams to create multiple
market-driven products that meet the needs of Wong's as well as our other
customers."
