Luis Echarte’s "Starting Over: A Way of Life" is a testimony that attests to never giving up, and leaving our comfort zone in order to succeed. As a Cuban immigrant who was forced to leave his country during Fidel Castro’s uprising, he worked in the family construction business in Miami. He then joined Bacardi, for which he created a worldwide growth strategy. After living in London and traveling to China, Nepal and Tibet for spiritual renewal, he came to work with Mexican billionaire Ricardo Salinas, CEO of Grupo Salinas. When Luis was diagnosed with cancer, he began writing this book, in which he aims to share professional and personal life lessons. 6:30 p.m. Books & Books, 265 Aragon Ave., Coral Gables.    In Dr. Carl Hart’s "High Price," the neuroscientist shares his story of growing up in one of Miami’s toughest neighborhoods and how it led him to his work in drug addiction. As a youth, he didn’t realize the value of school; he studied just enough to stay on the basketball team. At the same time, he was immersed in street life. He examines the relationship among drugs, pleasure, choice, and motivation, both in the brain and in society. His findings shed new light on common ideas about race, poverty, and drugs, and explain why current policies are failing. 8 p.m. Books & Books, 265 Aragon Ave., Coral Gables.
