Chief Judge Bertila Soto Grew Up In A Family Of Lawyers Wants Public To Know Importance Of Independent Judiciary

ost challenging jobs throughout history. But for Judge Bertila Soto, it is precisely those challenges that have sparked a strong passion and admiration for the law.

Judge Soto grew up in a family of lawyers and had her first hands-on experience with the law at age 14 working as secretary, receptionist, bookkeeper and law clerk at her father’s law firm. Now, as the recently-appointed Chief Judge of the Eleventh Judicial Circuit of Florida, Judge Soto plans on continuing the court’s legacy of being leaders in domestic violence, juvenile, family and drug cases.

Amidst the everyday hassles and a very busy schedule, Judge Soto always makes time for her family and enjoys reading, supporting the Miami Hurricanes in every game, and shopping – or, as she likes to call it, "retail therapy."
