With over 20 years in banking and extensive leadership experience, Gene Schaefer says his professional journey has now awarded him the best job in Bank of America. But he took no shortcuts during his journey.

He joined a management training program soon after graduating from college that exposed him to different areas of the bank. He held multiple positions before becoming the bankÕs market president in 2001 and market executive of commercial banking in 2006.

Mr. Schaefer is a member of the Orange Bowl Committee and serves on the board of governors of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, the board of Enterprise Florida, the board of United Way, the board of trustees of the American Red Cross, and is the incoming chair for United Way.

Mr. Schaefer believes "there is no ÔIÕ in Ôteam,ÕÓ as he constantly credits his team for being the backbone of Bank of AmericaÕs success in Miami, as well as his own.

And, speaking of bones, he says there is one area outside his office where he lacks expertise: cooking the perfect steak.

He was interviewed in his office on Brickell Avenue by Miami Today reporter Blanca Venegas. To read the full article and the rest of the Miami Today issue, subscribe to e-MIAMI TODAY, an exact replica of the printed edition.
