Bonanza rolls in with NASCAR visitors

    NASCAR championship weekend is upon us — bringing with it about 475,000 visitor days spent in the Miami-Dade County region and about a $200 million economic impact, according to a study by Washington Economics Group in Coral Gables.
   The impact of the Homestead-Miami Speedway itself, which hosts the NASCAR event, is estimated at $250.8 million annually for all its hosted events and operations, and accounts for another 100,000 visitor days outside of the championship weekend.
   And the numbers are continuing to grow for the weekend, said Matthew Becherer, speedway president, who said the event has the largest economic impact of any annual event in Miami-Dade.
