Sony Open tennis site battle isn't over

    Following last week's voter approval, Miami-Dade officials and tennis promoters are long on authority but short on financing details for facility upgrades for one of the marquee events of professional tennis — the Sony Open on Key Biscayne.
   The project could be destined for a challenge from Bruce C. Matheson, whose family once owned a part of the island. In 1940, his family donated to the county 950 acres that became Crandon Park, where the tournament has been held since 1987.
   Mr. Matheson, who sits on an oversight committee for the park, maintains the committee has the authority for final review of the proposal for the Crandon Park Tennis Center.
