BOOKS Friday 8/31 POETRY READINGFIU and UM host a back to school poetry reading featuring masters of fine arts alumni Jen Bartman, Neil de la Flor, Jason McCall and Jesse Millner. Saturday 9/1 SILENCED MAJORITYAmy Goodman releases "The Silenced Majority," giving voice to ordinary people standing up to corporate and government power. The book delves into politics, the implications of the Fukushima nuclear disaster, the movement to halt the execution of Troy Anthony Davis and the globalization of dissent "From Tahrir Square to Liberty Plaza." Throughout, Goodman and contributing writer Denis Moynihan claim to show the work of ordinary people to change their media and change the world. Sunday 9/2 HAPPY FAMILYHappy Family has created an educational presentation, "Growing Happy Kids from Health Foods," to provide parents with information on basic feeding and nutrition principles geared to ensure a healthy start for children. The presentation covers such topics as organic foods and why they are healthier, eight key food groups for optimal nutrition, and what foods and ingredients to avoid.
