MUSIC Thursday 2/16 FIFTH SYMPHONYThe New World School of the Arts Symphony Orchestra presents a rendition of Beethoven's "Fifth Symphony" conducted by Alfred Gershfeld. Elaine Alvarez, world renowned Cuban-American soprano and New World alumna opens the program with a collection from Mozart, Verdi and Puccini operas. 7:30 p.m. Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, 1300 Biscayne Blvd., Knight Concert Hall, Miami. $10 for students and seniors. $20 others. Friday 2/17 OPERA GOES GALA"The Frost Opera Theater Goes Gala" features a house party and opera rave showcasing first-year students through graduate level doctorate students practicing their art. Voice faculty include Esther Jane Hardenbergh, Dean Southern, Susan Williams and Alan Johnson. Also, flutist Trudy Kane performs along with anecdotes from her 32 years with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra.
