FACES OF CHINA
Miami-based professional photographer Tom Salyer showcases an exhibit of his work documenting his annual visits to China in "Faces of China." Features 32 works depicting his experiences with both ancient and contemporary China during an annual visit to the country between 2004 until his most recent trip in October. The work resembles more a casual observation of human nature than as an accentuation of differences between cultures. 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Mon-Fri. Exhibit through Jan. 21. ACND Gallery of Art at Archbishop Curley Notre Dame 6 to 12 Prep, 4949 NE Second Ave., Miami. Details: (305) 751-8367 ext. 28 or dromanik@acnd.net or www.acnd.net.
SAINTLY BLESSINGS
The University of Miami Lowe Art Museum presents "Saintly Blessings: A Gift of Mexican Retablos from Joseph and Janet Shein." Painted devotional images of saints and other holy persons, called retablos, are used primarily by Mexican peoples as objects of veneration and to seek favors. A collection of 28, painted on tin, has been donated to the museum by Philadelphia and Miami art collectors Joseph and Janet Shein. The gift is an important addition to the Lowe's collection of santos (the term santos includes both two-dimensional and three-dimensional imagery). They are on view 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tues.-Sat. Noon-4 p.m. Sundays. Exhibit through Sept. 23. Lowe Art Museum, 1301 Stanford Drive, Coral Gables. Free for Museum members, UM students, faculty and staff and children under 12. $5 seniors and non-UM students. $10 others. Details: (305) 284-3535 or www.lowemuseum.org.
