MUSICAL THEATER

   Miami Dade College’s Kendall Campus music, theater and dance students perform composer Alfred Reed’s "Portrait for Symphonic Band," a musical rendition of William Shakespeare’s "Othello." Five students will read selected scenes from the play, accompanied by the MDC Wind Symphony under the direction of Brian Neal. Professor Deborah C. Mello and Neil Olsen collaborated to direct the production.

FROST ENSEMBLE

   The UM Frost School of Music Fall concerts presents the Frost Jazz Vocal Ensemble 1 and the Frost Studio Jazz Band featuring songs from the American songbook performed by each ensemble alone and together. 8 p.m. Maurice Gusman Concert Hall, 1314 Miller Drive, Coral Gables. FROST SYMPHONY

   The UM Frost School of Music Fall concerts presents the Frost Symphony Orchestra conducted by Thomas Sleeper and Andres Jaime with soprano Esther Jane Hardenbergh. The program features Bernstein’s "Overture to Candide," Barber’s "Knoxville: Summer of 1915" featuring faculty artist Ms. Hardenbergh and concludes with Sibelius’s "Symphony No. 2 in D Major." 8 p.m. Maurice Gusman Concert Hall, 1314 Miller Drive, Coral Gables. HARVEST OFFERING

   The University of Miami’s choral ensembles Frost Chorale, Cantilena, Maelstrom and Frost Symphonic Choir perform in "A Harvest Offering." FROST WINDS

   The University of Miami’s Frost Symphonic Winds conducted by Thomas Keck and guest conductor Christopher Cicconi performs classic concert band favorites and Alfred Reed’s "Russian Christmas Music," inspired by the liturgical vocal music of the Eastern Orthodox Church. From its opening "Carol" to the final "Cathedral Chorus," the full range of the winds, brass and percussion is showcased. 8 p.m. Maurice Gusman Concert Hall, 1314 Miller Drive, Coral Gables. VISIONS OF ORPHEUS

   The Frost Opera Theater and program directors Alan Johnson and Dean Southern perform "Visions of Orpheus," the mythological tale of Orpheus, who charmed beasts and coaxed rocks and trees with his music to rescue his wife Eurydice from the Underworld. 7:30 p.m. Additional performances through Nov. 20.
