TWISTED WEB
In 2010 Korean film "The Housemaid," a young woman is caught in the middle of a wealthy family's twisted dealings after she is hired as a nanny. After being seduced by her male employer, the women of the house take it upon themselves to terrorize her. 3:50 p.m. Miami Dade College Tower Theater, 1508 SW Eighth St., Miami. $5 for MDC students, seniors and Miami Film Society members. $6 others. Details: (305) 643-8706 or www.mdc.edu/culture/tower.htm.
SECOND CHANCE
Both heavy and hilarious, French film "The Concert" centers on Andreď Filipov, who was once considered a prodigy as the conductor of the greatest orchestra in Russia. Yet during the communist era, he was fired at his peak for refusing to fire his Jewish players. Now a cleaner at the orchestra's facility, he seizes a chance to renew his dreams when a fax comes in inviting the orchestra to play in Paris. He steals the message and rounds up his old players — now much older and in varied jobs — in a comical attempt to regain fame and exact revenge. In French and Russian with English subtitles. 4 p.m. Miami Dade College Tower Theater, 1508 SW Eighth St., Miami. $5 for MDC students, seniors and Miami Film Society members. $6 others. Details: (305) 643-8706 or www.mdc.edu/culture/tower.htm.
THREE IN THE PAST
In 2010 Canadian film "Barney's Version," Golden Globe winner Paul Giamatti stars as Barney Panofsky, a television producer reflecting on three decades of his life and his three wives. These memorable women include Clara, a woman who lives by free love, the self-centered "Mrs. P" and Miriam, the right woman at the wrong time. 9:10 p.m. Miami Dade College Tower Theater, 1508 SW Eighth St., Miami. $5 for MDC students, seniors and Miami Film Society members. $6 others. Details: (305) 643-8706 or www.mdc.edu/culture/tower.htm.
