| ART Thursday 9/16 TROPICAL HOMESThe University of Miami School of Architecture presents the Mark Hampton Fellow of the American Institute of Architects Exhibition. MESOAMERICAN ARTIFACTS "Jaguar's Spots: Ancient Mesoamerican Art from the Lowe Art Museum" features 175 pieces from the Olmec, Maya and Aztec areas spanning more than 2,000 years, including a rare codex-style Maya vase with text and mythological imagery. RECENT ACQUISITIONS In honor of its 15th anniversary, The Wolfsonian-Florida International University showcases 100 objects in its "+5: Recent Acquisitions from the Wolfsonian Collection." Features: a large Teco bottle vase with a swirled base designed by Fritz Albert, a collection of color lithographs by American photographer William Henry Jackson and a tabletop sculpture by Gio Ponti and Tomasco Buzzi designed for the Italian Foreign Ministry. BLACK BEANS AND LOX Peruse 30 large-format photographs by Randi Sidman-Moore in "Lox with Black Beans and Rice: Portraits of Cuban Jews in South Florida." Images are coupled with brief oral histories on the lives of Cuban Jews who fled to the area after the 1959 Cuban communist revolution. Learn about their daily lives, holiday rituals and how the "Jewban" subculture differs from or is similar to the larger society. Ends Sept. 26. ADVERTISING EVOLUTION Miami International University of Art & Design showcases "Not Just Made Men," an exhibit on loan from the Hartman Center for Sales, Advertising & Marketing History at Duke University. The exhibit features documents and ad campaigns from the early 1960s. Before the opening a panel of industry experts will discuss graphic design and the advertising industry in the 1960s and how it has evolved. Ends Sept. 30.
