PARISIAN DUO The Bass Museum of Art presents an exhibit by Parisian artists Samuel Boutruche and Benjamin Moreau that work under the name "Kolkoz." Their work spans a wide variety of media from video to sculpture and installation, including forms created using ornate gold fames placed within one another in an Escher-like optical illusion. MESOAMERICAN ARTIFACTS "Jaguar's Spots: Ancient Mesoamerican Art from the Lowe Art Museum" features 175 pieces from the Olmec, Maya and Aztec areas spanning more than 2,000 years, including a rare codex-style Maya vase with text and mythological imagery. ARCHITECT VISIONARY ArtCenter/South Florida presents "A Quest for Emotion and Motion in Architecture," a retrospective of architect Morris Lapidus in historic photographs and designs. Mr. Lapidus is know as the "man behind Miami Beach's dramatic revival in the Golden years" from working on the Fontainebleau, Eden Roc and Dilido (now the Ritz-Carlton, South Beach) hotels and changing a portion of Lincoln Road from a two-way street to today's pedestrian mall. MODERNIZED MASTERWORKS Cremata Gallery presents its summer exhibition featuring Cuban artist Enrique Toledo's first exhibit in Miami. Mr. Marsh's paintings are created in layers as he adds and subtracts material, exploring the effects of each element and uncovering earlier gestures for a rich, fresh experience. Ends July 10. RECENT ACQUISITIONS In honor of its 15th anniversary, The Wolfsonian-Florida International University showcases 100 objects in its "+5: Recent Acquisitions from the Wolfsonian Collection." Features: a large Teco bottle vase with a swirled base designed by Fritz Albert, a collection of color lithographs by American photographer William Henry Jackson and a tabletop sculpture by Gio Ponti and Tomasco Buzzi designed for the Italian Foreign Ministry. BLACK BEANS AND LOX Peruse 30 large-format photographs by Randi Sidman-Moore in "Lox with Black Beans and Rice: Portraits of Cuban Jews in South Florida." Images are coupled with brief oral histories on the lives of Cuban Jews who fled to the area after the 1959 Cuban communist revolution. Learn about their daily lives, holiday rituals and how the "Jewban" subculture differs from or is similar to the larger society. Ends Sept. 26. VALUE SYSTEMS The Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami showcases the first comprehensive museum exhibit in the US of Paris-based collective artist Claire Fontaine's works. "Claire Fontaine: Economies" features sculptures, paintings, neon, videos and text that the museum's associate curator Ruba Katrib calls "a visual meditation on alternative value systems and on the contradictions connected to concepts of "ownership.'"
