LA VIE BOHEME

University of Miami theater students perform "Rent," one of the longest-running shows in Broadway history. Winner of four Tony Awards and the Pulitzer Prize for drama, Jonathan Larson’s musical tells of a group of bohemians struggling to live and make their rent payments in New York’s East Village. Ends May 1. Jerry Herman Ring Theatre at the University of Miami, 1312 Miller Drive, Coral Gables. $10-$22. Details: (305) 284-3355 or www.miami.edu/ring.

CREEPY/WACKY

Nicky Silver’s dark comedy "Raised in Captivity" opens with estranged twins attending their mother’s funeral after she was killed by a broken flying shower head. Things only get weirder from there with a ghost, a convicted murderer, a male escort and a therapist, resulting in a wacky, absurd comedy about family values, relationships and self discovery. Times vary. Ends May 16. New Theatre, 4120 Laguna St., Coral Gables. $20-$40. Details: (305) 443-5909 www.new-theatre.org.

RELIGIOUS CLASH

Two Holocaust survivors and former friends-turned-enemies meet by chance years down the road. Both have suffered tragic loss, but one remained a deeply religious Jew and the other has turned his back on God. Watch as they engage in a fierce battle of wits that tests their friendship and faith. Times vary. Ends May 23. GableStage at the Biltmore, 1200 Anastasia Ave., Coral Gables. $37.50-$45. Details: (305) 445-1119 or www.gablestage.org.
