Thursday 3/11

STRATEGIES FOR SURVIVAL
Lori Ann LaRocco discusses her book "Thriving in the New Economy," which polls some leading economic and business minds on their inspirational personal tales, business advice and strategies to succeed. 6:30 p.m. Books & Books, 265 Aragon Ave., Coral Gables. Details: (305) 442-4408 or www.booksandbooks.com
AMONG THE ECLECTIC
British interior designer Nicholas Haslam shares his book "Redeeming Features" on his years — 1940s to the present — in Europe and the US traveling among the eccentric social circles of the rich and famous. His tales include dancing with Brigitte Bardot in Saint-Tropez, encounters with Joan Didion and Marilyn Monroe while working in New York at Vogue's art department and having Truman Capote as a house guest. 7 p.m. Books & Books, 927 Lincoln Road, Miami Beach. Details: (305) 532-3222 or www.booksandbooks.com.

Friday 3/12

MYSTERY ON WALL STREET
James Grippando reads excerpts from and discusses his book "Money to Burn," a story reminiscent of "The Firm" about a successful Wall Street banker who has it all — the career, beautiful wife and a hefty bank account. All that changes one day when he logs onto his biggest investment account and sees the dreadful words: "zero balance." His only clue is in a new message in his e-mail inbox: "Just as planned. xo xo." 8 p.m. Books & Books, 265 Aragon Ave., Coral Gables. Details: (305) 442-4408 or www.booksandbooks.com.

Tuesday 3/16

TRUE LIFE TALE
Thomas Cahill talks about his book "A Saint on Death Row," the true story of Dominique Green, who was executed by lethal injection in 2004. Mr. Cahill visited Mr. Green while he was on death row at the request of a judge who was working on his appeal and was so compelled by what he saw as his unjust conviction that he decided to document it in a novel. Mr. Green was executed at 30 after being arrested at 18 for the fatal shooting of a man during a robbery outside a convenience store. He maintained until his death that he did not commit murder. 6:30 p.m. Books & Books, 265 Aragon Ave., Coral Gables. Details: (305) 442-4408 or www.booksandbooks.com.
