   The M Ensemble Company presents "Mahalia: A Gospel Musical" about the life of gospel legend Mahalia Jackson, focusing on Ms. Jackson’s roots as the grandchild of slaves born in New Orleans and her rise to fame. 8 p.m. Thursday-Sunday and Sunday matinees at 3 p.m. Ends Feb. 21. CULTURAL CONVERGENCE

   A story of lessons learned, Michael McKeever’s "Melt" follows the interactions of African American siblings, a Jewish father and his son and a Hispanic mother and her child, each of whom learns to see social and moral issues from another’s perspective. 8 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday. 2 p.m. Sunday. HIP-HOP ROMANCE

   Off-Broadway romantic comedy "Platanos and Collard Greens" centers on the bond of college couple Freeman and Angelita, testing whether relationships between blacks and Latinos can survive.    University of Miami theater students perform John Cariani’s "Almost, Maine." The comedy follows the residents of the remote, mythical town of Almost, Maine, who find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected, entertaining ways.
