| ART Thursday 7/9 HOW THINGS WEREThe Bass Museum hosts an exhibit titled "The Endless Renaissance." The collection, which brings historical works from the Bass Museum of Art together with contemporary works borrowed from local and national collections, shows what contemporary art and art of the Renaissance have in common. ANIMATED ICONS ArtCenter/South Florida hosts an exhibit titled "Freedom Fighters: An American Legend Re-imagined." The collection features 12 graphic artists who have designed mock posters of iconic African-Americans including Harriet Tubman, Nat Turner and the Black Panthers. AFRICAN INFLUENCE "Black Crossroads: The African Diaspora in Miami" explores the impact of African-Americans, Africans, black Caribs and black Hispanics on Miami through historic photographs, oral histories, memorabilia, film and artifacts related to black pioneers, families, laborers, communities and organizations spanning the 100-year history of black migration to Miami. ART AND FAITH "NeoHooDoo: Art for a Forgotten Faith," organized by the Menil Collection and PS 1 Contemporary Art Center, brings together an intergenerational group of artists who address the use of rituals in the artistic process and the implications of spirituality in contemporary art. THE LENS OF THE LOWE The Lowe Museum of Art hosts the photo exhibit "Through the Lens." The exhibition features 100 photos from the museum's collection of more than 1,000. The collection spans the development of the art form from its earliest years to the present day with genres including early travel, landscapes, international modernism, the world of celebrity and more. FROM THE PAST The Bass Museum of Art will open a collection of Renaissance and Baroque artwork from its permanent collection. The museum's collection spans work from the last 500 years and this exhibition will feature 16th-century tapestries as well as pieces that were once owned by King Henry VIII. Ends Sept. 13. A CUBAN CLASSIC Cernuda Arte gallery, along with the Rudman Family of the Dominican Republic, has acquired and will display the iconic Cuban painting "Fuego en el Batey" by modern artist Mario Carreño. The painting, purchased for more than $2 million, was created in 1943 and was thought to be lost until discovered in the home of a New York City collector. Ends Aug. 15. Friday 7/10 BEACHIN"The Wolfsonian-Florida International University hosts the exhibit "Beauty on the Beach: A Centennial Celebration of Swimwear." The collection of swimsuits, bathing caps, accessories, illustrations and promotional materials explore the role fashion and design played in shaping conceptions of glamour and health through an examination of innovations in swimwear design.
