Now in its sixth year, the Miami Dance Festival brings together several Miami-based ballet, flamenco and modern dance companies for a six-week celebration of the art. Participating companies include the Momentum Dance Company, Ballet Flamenco La Rosa, The Dance Now! Ensemble, Iroko Afro-Cuban Dance Theater and Bollywood dancer Geeta Dias. Performers will dazzle audiences at such venues as the Colony Theater, Miami Beach Cinematheque, the Manuel Artime Theater and the Byron Carlyle Theatre. Ends May 9. The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater comes to Miami with 31 dancers and six performances. Considered the most-traveled dance company in the world, it was recently recognized with a Congressional resolution naming it the US’s "Cultural Ambassador to the World." 8 p.m. Ends April 19. Enjoy the exotic dance styles of South Florida with "FIU Dance." Get a sneak peek of the Miami City Ballet’s 2010 season during the latest installment of its "Open Barre" serious.
