CUBAN PREMIERE
The Cuban Classical Ballet of Miami opens its 2009 season with the premiere of "Le Corsaire." The ballet, said to be inspired by Lord Byron's 1814 poem, features pirates, buccaneers and maidens from the 19th Century with original choreographed by Josef Mazilier. The modern production's roots are in the Marius Petipa stage revival for the Imperial Ballet of St. Petersburg. The original music was composed by Adolphe Adam with contributions by 10 other renowned composers. 8 p.m. March 1, 5 p.m. Fillmore Miami Beach at the Jackie Gleason Theater, 1700 Washington Ave., Miami Beach.
