THEATER

Thursday 1/8

SHORTENED SHAKESPEARE
A smash hit in London and across the US, "Shakespeare (abridged)" is an irreverent 97-minute race through the Bard's 37 plays performed by just three versatile actors, including Austin Tichenor and Reed Martin, managing partners of the Reduced Shakespeare Company. Designed for Shakespeare fans and phobics alike, the Miami production will feature updates incorporated in a London revival last year. Ends Jan. 18. Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, 1300 Biscayne Blvd., Miami. $45-$50. Details: (786) 468-2326 or www.arshtcenter.org.
KEEP ON COUNTING
Darkly comic and heartbreakingly beautiful, the award-winning musical adaptation of Elmer Rice's 1923 play "Adding Machine" tells the story of Mr. Zero, who after 25 years of service to his company is replaced by a mechanical adding machine. The play is a satiric view of capitalism that bears comparison with today's unsettled economy. Ends Feb 1. GableStage at the Biltmore, 1200 Anastasia Ave., Coral Gables. Details: (305) 446-1116 or www.gablestage.org.

Thursday 1/15
