Jones' novel "The Known World." The story follows the changing relationship between a father and daughter, living in 1960s Washington, DC, as a nearby railroad company buys up property and the neighborhood around them disappears. ROOTS TO ROUTES "From Roots to Routes," hosted by the Miami-Dade Public Library System, explores the historical importance and views the contributions to art by Latin American artists such as Jesus Rafael Soto and abstract artist Fernando de Szyszlo. This exhibition recognizes the works of a number of other Latin American artists and other post 1960s work by contemporary and modern artists from South America. Ends Dec. 29. CELIA CRUZ PHOTOS Alexis Rodriguez-Duarte, known for fashion and commercial photography, presents photos of legendary salsa singer Celia Cruz during the last 15 years of her life. RETURN OF AVANT-GARDE Acqualina Resort and Spa hosts 23-year-old Russian artist Olga Burtseva's "Return of the Lunar Avant-Garde." A FUTURISTIC PAST The Historical Museum of Southern Florida is hosting "Interama: Miami and the Pan-American Dream," based on the 1960s futuristic fair, Interama. While architects' predictions and visions for Miami never came to fruition, the museum has gathered their work into a multi-sensory exhibit that provides a look at post-World War II culture. WINGS FOR ALL Yinka Shonibare's exhibition created for the Miami Art Museum re-imagines the aspiration of flying. "A Flying Machine for Every Man, Woman and Child" features an idealized family clothed in wax-printed attire, each straddling a human-powered flying machine modeled after 19th-century drawings. ONE-MAN SHOW The Kelley Roy Gallery hosts 50 large-scale, vividly colored collages by Miami architect and artist Robert M. Swedroe. Sunday 11/9 HISTORICAL MARIONETTESThe Museum of Contemporary Arts hosts Pablo Cano's multimedia production "The Blue Ribbon." Featuring marionettes created from found objects, the show is a collaboration between artist and filmmaker Clifton Childree and choreographer Katherine Kramer.
