New dean Barbara Kahn aims to boost profile of the University of Miami School of Business

Armed with 17 years at the nationally ranked University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Business, Barbara Kahn plans to take the University of Miami's School of Business Administration to the top as its new dean. Succeeding Paul Sugrue — who in his 15-year tenure as dean increased the school's faculty 20%, expanded its executive MBA program to more than 600 students and raised more than $50 million in donations and $150 million in special program revenues — Ms. Kahn aims to increase the school's visibility nationally and internationally, further engage the local business community and interact with other UM schools to create an integrated, cutting-edge curriculum. She was interviewed in her new office, which she is not to officially occupy until Aug. 1, by Miami Today staff writer Risa Polansky.
