Student public art
   Miami International University of Art & Design hosts an opening reception for an art display by student finalists who were part of the 3333 Biscayne Art in Public Places competition. The City of Miami will present a proclamation to the university for its contributions to higher education in the arts and the arts community. Styx bassist

Dance festival

Guitar festival
   The third annual Miami International Guitar Assemblage and Competition features concerts, lectures, master classes and a guitar competition by artists from around the world. Domino night

Dinosaur exhibit
   The Miami Science Museum opens the exhibition The Dinosaurs of China. The collection will include dozens of dinosaur and bird fossils and mounted skeletons. The exhibition opens Saturday at 10 a.m. at 3280 S. Miami Ave., Miami. $13-$20.

Bloomsday festival
   Based on James Joyce's "Ulysses," the Bloomsday Festival will be celebrated in Coral Gables. The event begins Saturday with Family Day at 2:30 p.m. at Coral Gables Branch Library, 3442 Segovia St., Coral Gables. The library will present Irish music and tea. At 5 p.m., Mayor Donald Slesnick is expected to open the evening festivities with a Bloomsday proclamation at Books & Books, 265 Aragon Ave., Coral Gables. Residents are invited to dress in early-1920s costume. The event will include a parade, music and readings of "Ulysses" by local actors.

THEATER
Family theater
   Actors' Playhouse Musical Theatre for Young Audiences presents "The Fabulous Fable Factory." The musical tells the story of 12-year-old Margot, who falls into a land of make-believe and helps recreate Aesop's fables. The play begins Tuesday and ends July 28.
