Loehmann's plans to open Midtown store next month

By Risa Polansky
Specialty retailer Loehmann's plans to open its newest Florida store at the Shops at Midtown Miami on May 8.
The national off-price retailer will join Target, Circuit City, Linens 'N Things and Marshalls in the 18-block Wynwood shopping plaza in a 560,000-square-foot retail cluster.
At 30,000 square feet, Loehmann's is to carry designer clothing and shoe brands at discounted prices, said Midtown Miami leasing director Michael Ullian. "We needed more apparel retailers," he said.
Loehmann's, a 66-store chain that has stores at 18701 Biscayne Blvd. and 7135 SW 117th Ave., was drawn to the shopping center because of its proximity to downtown and Miami Beach, said advertising vice president Ferdinando Forcellati.
"I think we're going to be able to service a whole new group of customers," he said.
Midtown leasing and development are progressing, Mr. Ullian said. Café Praga, Great Florida Bank and HSBC are to open within three months, followed by "a lot more restaurants looking to come in."
The complex will include 3,000 condos, 900 rental apartments and 59,000 square feet of offices.
"As buildings get delivered, we fill them up," he said. Midtown 2 will get a temporary certificate of occupancy this week, allowing residents and tenants to begin moving in, he said.
Midblock is expected to open in July and Midtown 4 in December, he said.
"It's a work in progress," Mr. Ullian said. "Everything is moving along."
