Opening reception

   The Miami Beach Botanical Garden hosts an opening reception for Shanghai Modern, a painting exhibition by Lu Zhide. The exhibition will feature women in 1930s Shanghai. The artist will be at the reception to discuss his work. Tonight (1/11).

Art preview

   Casa Bacardi hosts an art preview of the Claros del Bosque exhibition by artist Baruj Salinas. The exhibition is a tribute to philosopher Maria Zambrano. Tonight (1/11). 7-9 p.m. at 1531 Brescia Ave., Coral Gables. The exhibition runs through Feb. 23. $5 donation.

Ballet premiere

   Carnival Center for the Performing Arts features Miami City Ballet’s Program II. The program will feature Miami City Ballet’s premiere of Twyla Tharp’s "In the Upper Room" and Christopher Wheeldon’s "Liturgy." The show opens Friday and runs through Sunday. Antique show

Grove festival

Meet Plantu

King Arthur’s folly

   See King Arthur and his knights riding on invisible horses to the sound of stomping coconut shells as they go on a quest for the Holy Grail in "Spamalot." The Tony Award-winning play, based on the film "Monty Python and The Holy Grail," will run through Jan 21. $34.25-$73.25. A cocktail hour before the performance will take place through Jan 20. $50. Ballet for a King

   In honor of Martin Luther King Jr., Broward Center for the Performing Arts presents the King Holiday-Sounds of Freedom concert. The show will be performed by New York’s Urban Ballet Theater, the Dee Dee Wilde vocalist ensemble, UBT’s Mambo and dancers from Dillard High School for the Performing Arts. Proceeds from the show will go toward funding scholarships for performing-arts students. Monday. 7 p.m. at 201 SW Fifth Ave., Fort Lauderdale. $25.

A woman’s flight

   The first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean is the lead character in "Amelia Earhart," a one-hour play at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. The play will feature bluegrass music. Jan 18. 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. at 201 SW Fifth Ave., Fort Lauderdale. $5.
