Engineer-real estate investor-man of faith Calvin Babcock spearheading large expansion project for Baptist Hospital
One of the Greater Miami area's major health-care institutions, Baptist Hospital in Kendall, had groundbreaking last week on a $122 million project that is to include a new 65,000-square-foot emergency center with 100 private treatment areas and a 120,000-square-foot tower to contain 96 in-patient beds with room for more later in what has been dubbed the East Campus Expansion.
And the not-for-profit hospital is moving ahead on other extensions.
Spearheading the move as chairman of the board of Baptist Hospital and treasurer of the board of trustees of Baptist Health South Florida since March 2004 is third-generation Miami resident Calvin Babcock, president of an engineering firm, real estate developer and investor whose religious faith has led him to serve in leading roles in charitable work here and in Haiti.
Mr. Babcock was interviewed a few days before the groundbreaking by Miami Today international editor Michael Hayes.
