CUBAN HERITAGE EXHIBIT
The University of Miami exhibit The Cultural Legacy of Mariel includes diverse documents, magazines, posters, letters and photos from the massive exodus in honor of the 25th anniversary of the Mariel boatlift and is displayed as part of the Cuban Heritage Collection through Dec. 31. The second annual juried Mosaic Exhibition is comprised of works of artists from around the US and Europe. The exhibit Earth Body Sculpture and Performance displays the career of Ana Mendieta and her work influenced by Caribbean and North American cultures. Deering Estate hosts a photography exhibition by Miami photographer Barbara Robbins. The Museum of Contemporary Art presents its new exhibition space, MOCA at Goldman Warehouse, with the interactive exhibition Cloud City by Miami artist collaborative Friends With You. Viewers are invited to become participants in Cloud City, an adventurous dream-world playground designed to reinvigorate audiences with childlike energy and optimism. 12:30-2:30 p.m. and 3-5 p.m. through Jan. 29. EXPEDITIONS ON FILM
The Museum of Contemporary Art presents the premiere of a film by British artist Isaac Julien. "True North" is the first film in a trilogy of histories of expeditions. The film is based on the story of Matthew Henson, the first African American to reach the North Pole. The Wolfsonian-Florida International University celebrates its 10th anniversary with an exhibition offering an exploration of American hotels in the early 20th century. The exhibit will focus on Schultze & Weaver hotels, including the Biltmore in Coral Gables, and explore the changing patterns of design and use of urban hotels' guestrooms. Presentation drawings and architectural plans will make up the core show, which will be followed by furniture, tableware, photographs and printed ephemera displays. Noon-6 p.m. through May 18. PABLO CANO MARIONETTES
Artist Pablo Cano explores man's journey through the ages in the production "The Beginning." Cano's cast of 100 marionettes includes Adam and Eve, planets, dinosaurs, the menagerie of Noah's Ark, robots and dancing telephones and televisions crafted from found objects like cracker tins, wash tubs and suitcases.
