CUBA'S ECONOMIC AND POLITICAL FUTURE
   The Association for the Study of the Cuban Economy holds its 15th annual conference where more than 60 scholars on transition economies present papers focused on the economic and social situation in Cuba. A Saturday-morning session looks at relations between Cuba and Venezuela. Egor Gaydar, former prime minister of the Russian Federation and keynote speaker, shares his experiences with dissolving the Communist regime under President Boris Yeltsin and policy implications for transition in Cuba.
