THEATER
CHEKHOV
The University of Miami's Theatre Arts Department presents two works that show the versatility, endurance and pleasure of Anton Chekhov's plays. "The Cherry Orchard" is a wise, witty and compassionate portrait of a disappearing way of life in turn-of-the century Russia. The story of a once-prosperous family facing financial ruin and an uncertain future was translated by "Noises Off" author Michael Frayn. 8 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday. "Anton in Show Business" is a hilarious skewering of theatrical egos battling through an ill-fated production of Chekhov's "Three Sisters" set in Texas. Winner of the 2001 American Theatre Critics' Steinberg New Play Award. 8 p.m. Thursday and Saturday. Admission $16 Friday and Saturday nights, $14 other performances. Jerry Herman Ring Theatre, 1312 Miller Drive, Coral Gables. Details: (305) 284-3355 or www.miami.edu/ring.
